The Ultimate Fall Mother-Daughter Trip

Moms. They are there for you through thick and thin and should be willing to go on an exciting trek through the woods with you and fight off bears and bobcats… and ok, maybe not that. But- they should have some fun. That’s why we put together the best of Lake Hartwell Country for you and your mom to have the ultimate fall getaway.

First things first, where do you want to stay? From the city streets of Anderson to the cozy mountains of Pickens, Lake Hartwell Country offers plenty of wonderful places to rest your head. If you want to get the most out of the fall foliage and stunning sunsets, we recommend glamping in Salem! Located along scenic highway 11, nestled in the woods, is the G.O.A.T. Geodome which sits quietly on a secluded pasture filled with farm animals and a zipline. Sleep under the stars in this heated dome that includes a full bathroom, kitchen, and jacuzzi. Feed the farm animals in the morning and enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee.

Start your day with a hike in Sumter National Forest and make your way to Station Cove Falls. This beautiful sixty-foot waterfall is an easy quarter-mile hike through the forest that is blooming with wildflowers and fall colors. The trailhead is located on Oconee Station Road, about two miles north of highway 11. An easy hike for you and mom, and the best memories to make on foot. Don’t forget to bring your camera!

If you and your mom are more into trekking the streets than the mountains, head down to Walhalla and get your shopping on! Down on Main Street, you can find plenty of unique boutiques, like Sunni Ann Rustic Shop and Corner Crafts & Boutique. Downtown Walhalla is a beautiful place to spend the day together. Gaze at artistic murals, grab a delicious lunch, walk through the history museum, and even spot a statue of Bigfoot.

Fifteen minutes from Walhalla is the quaint little town of Seneca. Here you will find the famous “Ram Cat Alley” filled with shops, and local restaurants. If you’ve worked up an appetite, try Vangeli’s Bistro for an artistic cuisine experience. Recently the recipient of the 2022 Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator, Vangeli’s offers a wide range of wine from all over the world and excellent food. If you arrive on a weekend, expect to hear a fantastic jazz band that’s as smooth as the cabernet.

Wherever you choose to stay, shop, or eat, we can guarantee you’ll have the best time exploring Lake Hartwell Country together. From the rolling hills to the stunning night skies, changing leaves, and wildlife; you and mom will be sure to make memories that last a lifetime.
